10 most expensive houses on the market

Everyone likes to get a glimpse into some of the biggest, most expensive houses listed for sale. Here's your chance to see the top five in the Indy metro area. 1. Listed at $4,29 million, you not only get five bedrooms, nine baths and 13,000-square-feet, but also lots of privacy. It's on 48 acres on US 421 in Zionsville. Built in 1998 by Lawrence Reckel, it has four levels, an indoor sports gym, outdoor tennis and basketball courts (lit, of course), a pool, eight-car garage, 10-acre stocked pond and woods for hunting, hiking or whatever else you want to do. It sounds like paradise, but the owners have been trying to unload this since 2009, when it first went on the market for $5.189 million. It went off the market last July, then back on in December. Check out the listing.

2. The address alone - 1332 Queens Way - makes this Carmel house seem expensive. And, it is. Listed at $4.5 million, it's the most expensive house for sale in Hamilton County. It's nearly 23,000-square-feet, and a wine cellar larger than my entire dining room. The Mediterranean-style estate sits off eight acres off Ditch Road between 106th and 116th streets. While it only has four bedrooms, it has a 4,000-square-foot ballroom, because sometimes, you just feel like dancing. And, because the exercise from dancing, swimming in the outdoor pool, playing on the sand volleyball court, or simply walking the length of the house may get tiring, there's an elevator. Feeling more sci-fi than regal, check out the Star Wars-themed bar. When guests visit, no throwing their coats over the backs of chairs or piling them on a bed, this house has its own coat room with an electric rack and his-and-her parlors. It's been on the market since May 2012, and over the two years, they've shaved $1 million off the list price. Here's the full listing, if you want to know more.

3. Not far from Queens Way, is Towne Road, where this home at 9920 Towne also is listed for $4.5 million. While there is no ballroom, there is an indoor tennis-basketball facility, an in-ground pool, sand volleyball courts, a heated, two-story playhouse for the kids and a in-law or nanny's quarters. With 16,652-square-feet, you get seven bedrooms, 11 baths, a tumbled marble spa room with sauna and tiered seating in the theater. Check it out.

4. The fourth most expensive Indianapolis-area listing, also in Carmel, was built in 2004, and inspired by a New England Cottage with multiple porches, a cabana with fireplace by the pool, carriage house and lots of clean white lines throughout the design. It has 12,242-square-feet, plus a basement that's not finished. There are five bedrooms, nine baths, a state-of-the-art basketball gym and fitness facility and greenhouse. It's located on 1.66 acres in the gated community of Laurelwood, which is off 106th Street near Springmill Road. The house went on the market in November 2012, for $4.87 million. Here's the listing.

5. The final house on our top five list of most expensive houses in the Indianapolis area has a well-known owner - Nancy Irsay. Listed at $3.69 million, it includes nearly 39 acres off 116th Street in Carmel. The beauty of this property, is mostly outdoors, and has been the site of plenty of parities and charity events over the years. It's been on the market since November 2012, but maybe this change in market will finally bring a buyer. Here's the listing.
